Living Room Mood Board

Jon and I have done very little to our home since we moved in three years ago. What can I say, all our time, money and energy goes into the baby! But we were starting to go a little stir crazy with the status quo and decided that it is time for a change. We started off by painting. Yes, I know that is completely backwards. You should ideally pick out all your fabrics and textiles, then choose a paint color. So don’t listen to us – clearly we are not DIY experts.

Our downstairs has a pretty open floor plan, but the previous owners had blocked off walls in a lot of different colors. We chose to lighten, brighten and unify the space by painting the entire downstairs in Valspar’s Gravity. We are about halfway through the painting project…not in the mood to do touch up and paint base boards. For a darker contrast, we painted one small feature wall in Valspar’s Vessel Gray.

We were this close to purchasing a new sectional this weekend but decided to hold off and save some more for it. But I did use my 15% off coupon at West Elm and purchased some new throw pillows. Insert happy dance here. I’ve already gone to the mailbox twice today. I ordered them this morning. Too soon?

I decided to put together a mood board for the rest of the living room. How very Young House Love of me.

Clearly I am in love with gray right now. Out with the chocolate brown (which has been my favorite color for at least a decade) and in with the neutral gray. I love how you can insert a pop of any color with it to bring in personality. Of course the mood board has a lot of wish list items, some realistic, some not so much. But a girl can dream, right? Ideally I want our living space to have a lot of texture, personality and warmth. We like modern, but not the I’m-scared-to-sit-down-because-I-may-interrupt-a-clean-line look. Maybe transitional is more the right word.

Here’s my source list:

  1. Love the texture of this hand-illustrated print.
  2. These just scream one-of-a-kind homemade.
  3. The sofa we came this close to purchasing this weekend.
  4. The pillow I am going to the mailbox several times a day for…Go get one for yourself, it is on SALE!
  5. This one, too.
  6. This just screams touch me.
  7. Love the juxtaposition of delicate blooms in bright green against the strength of the gray containers.
  8. Our paint colors. See them here.
  9. I must make a succulent terrarium. Like yesterday. With my luck it would die within hours.

Thoughts, comments or suggestions? What am I missing in the room? How about you? Any new home projects? What would your ideal living room look like?
